update on herbicide treatment: May 22, 2013
The herbicide treatment of Lower Bolton Lake on Monday, May 20 went smoothly. We shouldn't expect to see any impact on the naiad weed for several weeks. George Knoecklein, Lake Consultant, will be out next week to monitor nutrient and algae levels. Water will maintain its natural level for the remainder of the season.

NOTIFICATION OF AQUATIC TREATMENT
LOWER BOLTON LAKE – BOLTON/VERNON
In accordance with CT DEEP, Pesticide Division notification
requirements, Lower Bolton Lake in Vernon/Bolton will be chemically treated with the USEPA / CT DEEP registered herbicide Sonar Genesis (fluridone) for control of nuisance aquatic vegetation on Monday, May 20th.
Prior to treatment, the lake shoreline will be posted with signs showing water use restrictions in effect in accordance with DEEP requirements. The entire lake will be closed to all water uses (including swimming, boating and fishing) on the day of treatment only. Additionally, use of the lake water for irrigation is restricted for 90-days (or until August 20th), commencing on the day of treatment.
Additional follow-up treatments will be conducted as needed through June and
July. More information regarding this treatment may be obtained from the person
named below.
The chemical application is being conducted by the State licensed
firm, Aquatic Control Technology of 11 John Rd., Sutton, MA 01590, Tel. (508)
865-1000; contact Dominic Meringolo.
Lower and Middle Lakes to be Drawn Down
In preparation for Monday's treatment of the Lower Lake, both the Lower and Middle
Lakes will be drawn down to hold their water levels below the edges of the dam
spillways. In that way, the treated waters would be retained in the Lower Lake
for maximum effect. We are told that this will only be about a 6 inch drawdown but experience indicates that there may be variability.
We suggest lake residents remain aware of the water level if you have any concerns regarding yourboats or other items you may have in the water.
